Minor Surgical Procedures
Cryotherapy is the use of low temperatures in medical therapy. may be used to treat a variety of tissue lesions to destroy abnormal or diseased tissue and is used most commonly to treat skin conditions.
Electrocautery is an effective medical technology to remove benign (non-cancerous) growths. This procedure uses heat from an electric current to destroy abnormal tissue, such as a tumour or other lesion. Simultaneously it also used to control bleeding during surgery.
Curettage, in medical procedures, is the use of a curette to remove tissue by scraping or scooping and to obtain material for tissue diagnosis.
Therapeutic injections provide clinical benefits by relieving pain, restoring function, or both. These injections commonly include corticosteroids, hyaluronic acid, dextrose prolotherapy, and platelet-rich plasma.
Excision is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of growths, such as moles, masses and tumors, from the skin along with the healthy tissues around the tumor. The doctor uses this technique to treat skin cancers, where they use a scalpel or razor to remove the tumor. After removing the tumors, the doctor may send the specimen to the laboratory for examination.
INCISION is a cut made into the skin and tissues of the body for a surgical purpose. It can be used to expose the underlying tissue, bone, or organ, or to allow the discharge of unwanted material. It is usually made with a sharp instrument, such as a scalpel, and closed with sutures, but sometimes it is left open to heal. A skin incision can also be a technique to remove skin lesions that rise above the skin or are in the upper layer of skin.
Other surgical procedures which the practice is deemed competent to carry out – eg, skin biopsy (punch and shave), endometrial sampling, removal of toenails, removal of contraceptive implants, evacuation of perianal haematomas and removal of skin lesions where clinically indicated (see local guidance).
